A 7-day generative writing workshop

Magical Realism: Writing the Extraordinary Inside the Ordinary

An invitation to write toward quiet strangeness—where the unreal lives inside the real, and reveals emotional truth.

Magical realism does not announce itself. It appears quietly—in kitchens, classrooms, family stories—where something impossible exists and no one stops to explain it.

What This Workshop Is

This is a short, immersive writing experience designed to help you write daily without overthinking, explore magical realism as a literary mode, and generate new work rooted in emotional truth.

Each day offers a brief craft focus paired with a writing prompt. The emphasis is on discovery: drafting work you can return to, revise, or simply let exist.

You are not writing toward polish. You are writing toward possibility.

A week of daily writing, craft focus, and generative prompts.

What You’ll Explore Over Seven Days

  • The foundations of magical realism (and its boundaries)
  • Sensory writing and synesthesia
  • Juxtaposition and contrast
  • Emotion as a vehicle for magic
  • Objects, repetition, and accumulation
  • Transformation without explanation
  • Revision that preserves mystery

By the end of the workshop, you will have several generative drafts, at least one piece with revision potential, and a repeatable approach to writing magical realism on your own.
